What's New in 3.1

Kinetic Task 3.1 provides reusable power with the introduction of subtrees, and gives better visibility into your task system with the task handler analysis report.  Additionally, other enhancements are included in this release including: the ability to update a task handler from the import form, and the ability to view and handle all task exceptions in the system.

Subtrees

Kinetic Task 3.1 implements subtrees, which represent a task process that can be used by any other process tree.  This gives the ability to create smaller processes and package them independently of the "big process".  It also makes this small subprocess reusable, so it only has to be defined in one place, making updates to the process easier, more reliable, and faster.  Please see the subtrees section in the User Guide for more information and an example.

Task Handler Analysis Report

The Task Analysis Console has now been built into Kinetic Task that shows statistics for task handlers and subtrees.  The console consists of essentially three reports:

  • all task handlers in the system, and where each is used
  • all subtrees in the system, and where each is used
  • all missing task handlers and subtrees - this is a list of task handlers and subtrees that are used in trees, but have not been imported into the system

Task Handler Updates

Kinetic Task 3.1 now supports updating existing task handlers when using the import task handler form.  This allows task administrators to update existing task handlers without having to first delete the task handler, then reconfigure any task info values and categorizations.

Follow the instructions in the user guide to update existing task handlers.

Task Exception Management Console

The task exception management console was updated to give a user the ability to page through all exceptions in the system.  Prior versions only displayed the latest 50 exceptions, without any way to view or handle the rest of the exceptions.

License Updates

The application will now run in a limited unlicensed mode if a license key has not been provided.  The task engine will be fully functional as long as the system has less than 1,000 task instance records.  When the task instance limit is reached, the task engine will stop processing and cannot be restarted until a valid license key is provided.  For customers just wanting to play around with the task engine, deleting task instance records to bring the total count below the limit will also work.
