Database Migration

You have just migrated your Production Database down to your Test environment and now you are receiving numerous error messages when trying to use Kinetic Request, Task, and Survey.  The reason for this is because these applications are using data stored in your Database and when the Migration occurs you must now reconfigure your applications. The steps listed below are similar to the steps you took when the applications were first installed.

Usage

After migrating one Database to another environment you must complete the following actions to ensure that Kinetic Request, Survey, and Task will function correctly:

Request/Survey:

  1. Log into the Remedy User Tool/Mid Tier and open the Kinetic Request Service Catalog Console.
  2. Click on the Configuration Link located on the left side of the screen.
  3. Click on the Configuration Items Tab.
  4. In the table field double click the Request License Key entry.
  5. Delete the current value in the Configuration Value field.
  6. Add the correct license key value into this field.
  7. In the table field double click the Survey License Key entry.
  8. Delete the current value in the Configuration Value field.
  9. Add the correct license key value into this field.
  10. In the table field double click the Default Web Server entry.
  11. Delete the current value in the Configuration Value field.
  12. Add the Web Server value into this field.
  13. In the table field double click the Mid-Tier Server entry.
  14. Delete the current value in the Configuration Value field.
  15. Add the Mid-Tier Server value into this field.
  16. In the table field double click the Escalation AR Server entry.
  17. Delete the current value in the Configuration Value field.
  18. Add the Escalation AR Server value into this field.

If your Default Web User is different in your environments (User name and/or Password) you will need to take the following steps:

  1. Open the Kinetic Request/Survey Admin Consoles.
  2. Update the Web User Settings for the Default User and Password.  Note that the User and Password information must match what is held in the Remedy User Form.

Once these steps are completed you will also need to "Update the Web Servers" by taking the following steps:

  1. Log into the Remedy User Tool/Mid Tier.
  2. Open the Kinetic Request Service Catalog Console.
  3. Click on the Configuration Link located on the left side of the screen.
  4. Click on the Update Web Servers link located on the left side of the screen.
  5. Highlight all of the values displayed in the table.
  6. Press the drop down on the New Web Server URL field.
  7. Select correct web server.
  8. Click the Update button.
  9. Open the Kinetic Survey Author Console.
  10. Repeat Steps 3 - 8 above.

The steps listed above are required so that your Service Items and Surveys will open on the correct web server.

Message Templates:

  1. Open the AR System Email Mailbox Configuration form.
  2. Run a search to return all values in this form.
  3. Review the Mailbox Names and other configuration values to ensure that the correct values appear in this form.
  4. Go to the Kinetic Request Service Catalog Console and Click the Link for Message Templates.
  5. Update each of the Message Templates so that they have the correct Mailbox Name, Outgoing Email Address, and Reply To Email Address.
  6. Check the Message Template to ensure that there are no hard coded links pointing to the "wrong" environment.
  7. Go to the Kinetic Survey-Author Console and Click the Link for Message Templates.
  8. Update each of the Message Templates so that they have the correct Mailbox Name, Outgoing Email Address, and Reply To Email Address.
  9. Check the Message Template to ensure that there are no hard coded links pointing to the "wrong" environment.

Sources:

  1. Open the Kinetic Task Manager.
  2. Click onto the Sources Link (left side of the page).
  3. Click on the Kinetic Request Source.
  4. Update the Server, User Name, and Password.

Bridges:

Open the Bridge Web Application by using the following link:

http://SERVER:PORT/kineticArsBridge

*Note that this will most likely be the same SERVER and PORT that you are using to access the Kinetic Request Web Admin Console.

Login (Default User: admin Default Password: admin)

Update the Bridge Settings to have the correct Username, Password, Server, Port, Prognum, and Servers Allowed API Address.

Task Engine:

  1. Open the Kinetic Task Manager.
  2. Click on the Handlers Link (left side of the page).
  3. Click on the Handler name located in the Table field.
  4. Edit the Values located at the bottom of the page so that they have the correct authentication, password, port, prognum, server, and username.
  5. Save the changes.
  6. Repeat steps 3-5 for each of the Handlers in your environment.

Once all of the listed listed above have been completed you will need restart the Task Engine.
