How-to Move a Data Management Console Dataset to a New Server

This explains how to move a defined dataset and it's contents from one server to another, ex. from UAT to Production.

Goal

After completing this tutorial you will have the same dataset and data on both servers.

Steps

First Step

Begin by exporting the definition for dataset you want to move. This is done by

  1. Selecting the Data Types Definitions dataset
  2. Select the dataset you would like to move (you can do multiple at once, if you wish, but in this example we're just showing one).
  3. Then click on Save Selected and chose CSV
  4. You will be prompted to save the file. You may need or want to rename it/place it somewhere different so you can find it.

You now have the dataset definition exported. Next you need to do the same thing for the data.

Second Step

Next, export the data for the dataset you wish to move.

  1. Use the Qualification fields to select the appropriate dataset.
  2. Click Save All.
  3. Select CSV
  4. You will be prompted to save the file. You will probably need or want to rename it/place it somewhere different so you can find it.

Third Step

Next, import the dataset definition into the DMC on the new server.  This is done by

  1. Open the file using a program like Excel you exported in Step 1 and delete the first column (Request ID). Be sure to still save it as a CSV.
  2. Selecting the Data Types Definitions dataset
  3. Select File Upload.
  4. Select the document you exported in Step 1.
    Select Yes for header row
    Select No for replace records
  5. Put in whatever email address you wish and submit.

Fourth Step

The final step is to load the data into production. Now you should be able, once the load from Step 3 emails you that it is complete (or you can see it in the DMC), select the newly move dataset from the qualifications menus. Now, just repeat Step 3, but for this dataset's data.

  1. Open the file using a program like Excel you exported in Step 2 and delete the first column (Request ID). Be sure to still save it as a CSV.
  2. Selecting the newly loaded dataset.
  3. Select File Upload.
  4. Select the document you exported in Step 2.
    Select Yes for header row
    Select No for replace records
  5. Put in whatever email address you wish and submit.
